Best Folding Magnetic Rowing Machine? We Compare 3…

When it comes to indoor rowers, and often save money by getting a model that offers “Magnetic Resistance”. But what are the pros and cons? Plus, how do you choose the best folding magnetic rowing machine? We review some of the top choices below…

What's the Best Folding Magnetic Rowing Machine? We Compare Indoor Rowers

Magnetic Rowers Cost Less & Still Provide a Full-Body Workout:

As with flywheel or water rowers, these magnetic rowing machines allow you to strengthen all major muscle groups simultaneously. Plus, you can combine your strength training and aerobic workout into one.

In other words, indoor rowing provides a really efficient exercise routine in a minimal amount of time. Not to mention, you don’t have to spend a lot of money on multiple pieces of equipment.

Note: A big reason I like rowing as a fitness activity is that you can do high intensity workouts with minimal impact. Therefore, they work really well for losing weight while performing shorter workouts. (And, they minimize the risk of a sports-related injury.)

Easy-to-Use Features Make These Machines Very User Friendly:

Adjustable Resistance on Magnetic Rowing MachineThese magnetic folding rowing machines all have adjustable resistance. Therefore, you can easily increase or decrease the intensity of your workout by moving a handle. In fact, you don’t even have to get up from your seat.

Each of these machines include a foldable seat track and base wheels. Therefore, you can easily fold and roll them away for storage. Plus, this convenient feature makes them easier to transport, use them outdoors or move to different areas of your home.

#1: Circuit Fitness Rowing Machine:

The Circuit Fitness Deluxe Rower has a complete LCD digital display that tracks speed, distance, time, calories burned, RPM and more. Plus, if you have a heart rate monitor chest strap, the rower can track that for you as well.

I like the specially-designed molded seat on this machine because it enables you to exercise for longer without having your butt go numb. That said, if you row long distances and prefer a softer seat, I recommend getting a rowing seat cushion.

Here’s a review of how the Circuit Fitness deluxe indoor rower works. Plus, you can see how compactly it folds up in a corner.

Specs for the Circuit Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine:

  • Dimensions: 71″ Long x 31.5″ Wide x 20.5″ Tall
  • Weight: 90 lbs
  • Weight Capacity: 300 lbs
  • Material: Heavy-Duty Steel & Aluminum
  • 8 Resistance Settings
  • Flywheel Weight: 11 lbs
  • User Manual with assembly instructions

#2: Merax Folding Magnetic Rowing Machine:

The Merax stands out from other rowing machine because it comes with an extra padded upholstered seat. Compared to typical hard plastic seats, the softer cushioning makes sitting more comfortable. Not to mention, it can increase blood flow to your glutes while working out.

However, this model has a smaller digital display that sits low rather than at eye level. Therefore it’s not as easy to read.

In addition, it only tracks time, calorie and stroke count. In other words, if you want to monitor your speed, RPM or distance, you’re better off going with the Circuit Fitness.

#3: GoPlus Gymax Indoor Rower:

GoPlus makes a lower-priced indoor rower with a 10-level tension resistance system, but how does it compare?

GoPlus Gymax Foldable Magnetic Rowing Machine

Similar to the other models above, it includes an LCD monitor so you can track your workouts. For example, you can monitor stroke count, count per minute, exercise time, calories and distance.

In addition, the ergonomically-designed seat, adjustable foot plates and straps enhance the comfort of your fitness equipment. Not to mention, this enables multiple people to use the machine and modify the settings to their liking.

Note: I don’t like the narrow single foot at the end of the seat track because it doesn’t provide much stability. For instance, if you look at the Merax or Circuit Fitness rowers, you can see that they have T-shaped feet for more support.

Specs for the GoPlus Gymax Magnetic Rower:

  • Dimensions: 72″ Long x 21″ Wide x 18.5″ Tall
  • Weight: 52 lbs
  • Weight Capacity: 265 lbs
  • Material: Iron + ABS
  • 10 Resistance Settings
  • Flywheel Weight: 10 lbs
  • Includes Phone Holder
  • Brand: GoPlus

Overall, I think you get what you pay for with these rowers. In other words, the heavy-duty, full-featured Circuit Fitness rower will cost you more.

On the other hand, if you don’t care about all the features and prefer to save money the GoPlus indoor rower may work better for you. It may not be able to handle more vigorous workouts or frequent use. However, it can help you lose weight, tone your body, get an aerobic workout and increase flexibility.
